45° Angle Block

This simple angle block is used to simplify cutting mitres on the bandsaw. It is made from three off-cuts of 20 mm × 20 mm × 2 mm box section steel and a short length of 18 mm diameter EN1A held in place with an M8 cap screw and an 18 mm diameter washer. The welded joint nearest the cylinder of EN1A is the only critical angle. This was welded very carefully to ensure that it is at exactly 45°. The other corners are simply there to provide structure.

This shows how the angle reference is used. The steel cylinder fits into the slot for the moving vice jaw and prevents the angle reference from moving to the left. The fixed bandsaw jaw is left at 90° to the saw blade and the moving jaw is allowed to rotate to 45°. This is much quicker than adjusting the fixed jaw to 45° and then back to 90° when mitre joints are being made.
